Seven Nights at the Conrad Tokyo

This is part 3 of the Tokyo, Japan trip report. For the other parts, please follow the links below.

After passing through customs and immigration at NRT we purchased Airport Limousine tickets to the Conrad Tokyo in the Shiodome district. If you aren't familiar with the Airport Limousine it is actually a long distance bus. It takes you directly from the airport terminal curb to the door of whatever hotel you select as your destination. At 3,000 yen per person one way it is the most expensive way to get in to Tokyo from Narita but you don't have to lug your suitcases and it is door-to-door. The staff are really gentle with your suitcases. (No tipping in Japan!)

I had previously become enamored with the Conrad brand at the Conrad New York so I was really looking forward to an extended stay at the Conrad Tokyo.

The lobby is actually on the 28th floor of an office building so you have to walk through a building lobby to get to the hotel lobby. It's a little bit strange but it offers the actual hotel lobby gets some spectacular views of Tokyo Bay.

By the way, BT and I did not even touch our suitcases ever since we boarded the bus. When we arrived at the hotel the bus staff quickly loaded our suitcases onto luggage carts that was handled by a Conrad staff person. All of this was brought up to the lobby and quietly wheeled next to us at the check in counter. I love Japanese customer service.

We were confirmed our upgrade to a king room with a bay view.

I've been to Tokyo numerous times. This is by far the nicest and most spacious hotel room I've ever had in Tokyo. By American standards this might not be much, but compared to some other Tokyo hotel rooms that I have seen, this is a downright mansion.

In the bathroom there's also a separate shower and toilet room complete with an electronic Toto washlet (of course). Do you know how nice it is to have a heated toilet seat??

The hotel room was cleaned very well each day with a new rubber duck and a set of bears in place.
The checklist for these rooms must be insane.
If you're curious, I do have quite a rubber duck and Conrad Tokyo bear collection now.

It was already getting pretty late but I managed to make BT leave his room to go across town with me to meet up with one of my friends. "Welcome to Japan. Time for some culture shock."
We rode the Yamanote-sen all the way to Shibuya with the infamous Starbucks intersection for some late night kushiyaki (deep fried skewer items) with one of my best friends, MS.

We kanpai. We ate. We got drunk....and somehow made it back to Conrad.

In the morning I woke up to a spectacular view of Tokyo Bay and Hamarikyu Garden from my room...
I couldn't believe I was going to wake up to this view for a week. The lounge bar downstairs (TWENTYEIGHT) also has this same view. You can drink the signature Conrad Tokyo (quite a doozy) and smoke a cigar there.

Each morning I got to enjoy the breakfast buffet at Cerise which was a French restaurant adjacent to the lobby. The breakfast is normally 3,700 yen per person but with Hilton gold status, you and one other guest will receive it complimentary. The breakfast was mostly the same each day but there would be slight differences in the fruits, bread, and hot offerings.

Most. Delicious. Breakfast. Buffet. Ever.
There was such a wide variety of food. I'll just let the pictures do the talking. Please avert your eyes if you are hungry.

Congee with traditional garnish and pickles

Salads

Smoked salmon and cured meats

Parfait and smoothies

Cheese and crackers

Soba noodles and onsen egg

Scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, and hash brown

Fruits, fruits fruits

Fried rice

BREAD

Cereal and dried fruits (for oatmeal)
Because Cerise is French for cherry the restaurant had a bunch of whimsical cherry statues. I found them really amusing.

The Conrad has a variety of restaurants serving cuisine from around the world including the Michelin starred China Blue. Unfortunately I didn't get to try any of them but I figured it was because we were in Tokyo and we should eat some really local foods-plus they're pricey. I hope to try some of their restaurants next time.

The Conrad Tokyo staff are absolutely top notch. Any staff that we encountered were excellent and always made the effort to fulfill your requests. (Can you look up if there are any horse races??)

We actually got to know one of the managers named Ari and he for some reason always seemed to know when we would walk through the lobby and chase us down. He always made sure we were having a good pleasant stay and asked if there was anything we needed. I made a comment that my bed was too hard and he sent some people up with extra sheets and a few comforters to lay on the bed so that it could be made softer.

Upon check out the staff came to pick up our suitcases and brought it all the way down to the ground floor and even loaded it onto the bus for us. Sigh. Why did we have to leave?

Conclusion
I really enjoyed my stay at Conrad Tokyo again. The staff was excellent. The hotel was super clean. The breakfast buffet is great. I hope to stay there again next time I'm in Tokyo. It's easy to see why this is a consistently top rated hotel.

Bonus: I found a beer vending machine at a friend's hotel next door.
